Types of alarms

There are three types of bedwetting alarms:

(1) Personal alarm with a remote (wire-free) wetness sensor

(2) Personal alarm with a wire leading from the alarm to the wetness sensor

(3) Alarm with a bed-mat wetness sensor

Personal Alarm with a remote (wire-free) wetness sensor

The 'Enurad' is a unique alarm.

A small remote wetness sensor fits into a sliced pantyliner placed inside a pair of briefs.

At the first drop of urine, sensor sends a signal to the clock receiver which rings until alarm is turned off.

The alarm clock receiver is powered by a 9V adapter plug and 1.5V battery.

 

No wires on child

The alarm clock receiver can be placed away from the bed

Comfortable to wear

Easy to use

 

Sensor placed in briefs. May not suit older boys and men.

Needs to be set up in a (simple) two-step sequence.

 

Personal alarm with a wire leading from the alarm to the wetness sensor

Many different brands on market.

Consist of a small wetness sensor linked by a wire to an alarm box attached to the pyjamas. The sensor is clipped onto the briefs or a pantyliner.

Alarm is usually stopped by pressing a button on the alarm box, or by pulling out the connection.

Alarm with a bed-mat wetness sensor

A few different brands on market.

A rubber or plastic mat sensor is embedded or embossed with wire.

This mat sensor is placed on the mattress protector and covered with a sheet or towel.

Wire attachment to a battery operated alarm box.

When alarm sounds, alarm is switched off.

 

No need to wear briefs or pyjamas

Reliable - sensor has large catchment area for urine

Alarm usually powered by rechargeable battery

More cumbersome to use and clean

Some brands require wet bedding to be removed before alarm sound can be switched off.
